BadAss Biker Strategy to Acing Your Interview

BadAss Biker Strategy to Acing Your Interview

TOGETHER FOR YEARS

Bound by chrome, leather, and the allure of the open road. We’re not poster boys for Sons of Anarchy; we’re more like the endearingly flawed Misfits on Wheels.

We’ve shared wrenches, sunrises, and countless ice cream cones. We always argue about who rides too slow or too fast and whether to take side roads or tollways. Arguments are our love language—the glue that binds us.

THE CALL

When Corey calls, I’m ready.

Corey: “Hey! Great post on Facebook. Love the shots you took!”

I chuckle and tell him I had a blast.

Corey: “You’re going to think I’m a selfish jerk, but can you take that picture of me down? The rest are fine, but I can’t stand that photo.”

I took down the picture. His tactics worked.

THE KICKER

Here’s the kicker: You can use Corey’s technique in a job interview. Let’s break down his strategy.

1. Start with Flattery: He began by complimenting my post.
Result? My ego got a little boost.

2. Prepare for the Unpleasant: He prefaced his request with, “You’re going to think I’m an ass.”
He beat me to the punch, labeling himself before I could.

3. Present the Request Politely: He asked me to remove the picture in a way that made me feel involved in the decision.
Corey scored a win by tuning into my needs for self-esteem and autonomy while cleverly diffusing any potential conflict.

APPLICATION IN INTERVIEWS

So, how can you apply Corey’s savvy approach in a job interview?

Imagine this exchange:

You: “Hi! Good morning! The job description is very thorough—someone really put a lot of effort into writing it.”
(There you go, stroke their ego.)

You: “Apologies in advance; I might not tick all the boxes you’ve listed in qualifications. May I share the skills I do bring to the table?”
(Boom! You’ve just diffused conflict and made your “ask.”)

CONCLUSION

And that’s it. Deceptively simple. Astoundingly effective.

Dial into the interviewer. Recognize their need for self-esteem and autonomy. Diffuse any tension by laying it on the table.

You Got this!
